Prayer Focus: Protection from Evil
Central Scripture: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Prayer:
Merciful Father, I thank You today that no matter how much this life may feel like a battle, we are assured that the victory is Yours. Thank You for being our warrior King, who goes into battle for us and never stops fighting until the war is won. Thank You for being not only the God of angel armies, but the God of every temptation and struggle we face.
Lord, I pray today that You would continually fight for my family. You are the One who fights for us, and I pray that we would submit every battle to Your leadership. Let us not fight for ourselves, but submit ourselves instead to a your commands…Your rules…Your battle strategy, that our enemy would have no choice but to flee.
Gracious God, I pray for my husband and the evil that seeks him out every day simply because he is a man. I pray against the plots and schemes of the enemy to make him fall, and I pray against the lies that are so easy to believe. Help him to stand firm in You, raising his weapon only at Your command and fighting as a soldier of heaven. Let him not back down in matters of character or integrity, but let him always be a shining example of Christlike manhood. Help me to be the supportive helpmate for him that You have designed me to be, and never let evil drive a wedge between us in our marriage.
Lord, I pray for my children as they grow up in a world with visible, tangible evidence of evil that the world hasn’t seen before. But there is nothing new under the sun, and the forms of evil that manifest themselves in our world today are really just a continuation of the same evil that has pervaded the world since the Fall. Father, as out of control and terrifying as it is for me to realize the condition of the world I have brought my children into, I know it breaks Your heart even more. We are Your children – all of us – and You fight for us just as You have always fought for Your creation. I pray that my children would stand firm in the truth they know of You, and would submit their lives to your leading. Father, that submission is counter cultural, but it is the only way for them to walk in confidence and to send the enemy fleeing.
Father, please protect my family from evil. Guard our home, from corner to corner, wall to wall, floor to ceiling. Guard our hearts. Guard our words and our actions, that nothing we do would allow the devil to gain a foothold and have a place here that is rightfully Yours. We are Yours, God, and we submit to You.
